How To Prepare Your Legs For Your Waxing Appointment

A very effective hair removal approach is, of course, waxing – but if you’ve never made an appointment before, you can be forgiven for being a little nervous, as it can be a little uncomfortable depending on your particular pain threshold.

However, there are a few little tricks of the trade you can follow that could make the procedure less painful and as quick as possible.

First of all, you may want to give your hair a little trim before you visit the salon, as longer hair can be a lot more painful to wax. This is especially good advice if you’re having your bikini line done and it can also help to prevent ingrown hairs. The hair should be at least 0.5cm long so it can be easily removed, but no longer than 1.5cm.

The day before your appointment, prepare by giving your skin a good exfoliation to keep it soft and smooth, and help to prevent ingrown hairs. On the day of the appointment, hop in the bath or shower to open up the follicles, which will make it easier to remove the hair.

If you know your pain threshold isn’t that high, take a couple of paracetamol before your appointment to take the edge off – and remember that it can be more painful if you’re on your period or you’re about to start.

After you’ve been waxed, don’t get into a hot shower for 24 hours, showering in cooler temperatures instead. Avoid exfoliation and try not to scratch the area that has been waxed. Soothe any potential irritation by applying a cool aloe vera gel to rehydrate your skin and calm it down.
